The City of Pocatello
is a Safe Place.
Where kids get help fast. Sponsored by the Bannock County Youth Foundation.

Every year city departments are required to present a performance report to the Mayor, City Council and citizen stakeholders (Service Level Report). Under the supervision of the Chief Financial Officer, the departments discuss their mission, financial inputs, workload outputs, measures of efficiency & effectiveness (including comparisons to other cities & industry norms), results and their issues and concerns for the future.

POSITIVE ABOUT POCATELLO

We're positive about Pocatello. Pocatello is a great place to live, work, and do business. The Planning & Development Services Department encourages everyone to help build an even better community. Some places to start are listed below, and we would like to encourage you to send us your ideas for inclusion on this page.

BE POSITIVE
A positive outlook helps create a bright present and future.
GET INVOLVED
Volunteer to help in community, neighborhood, school (or whatever your particular interest) improvements efforts. Encourage groups you belong to - religious, civic, social - to do the same.
KEEP POCATELLO BEAUTIFUL
Don't litter. AND take advantage of opportunities to make smalll efforts at community beautification by picking up litter when you see it.
PARTICIPATE IN CITY GOVERNMENT
Be a member of a City advisory committee, attend (or watch) City Council meetings. Let your Council members know what you are thinking.
KNOW YOU NEIGHBORS
Getting to know your neighbors enhances the sense of community and can reduce the chances of crime in your area.
PARTY WITH YOUR NEIGHBORS
Holding a block party or picnic is a great way to build a neighborhood and make great friends.
HELP YOUR NEIGHBORS
Not everyone can wield a snow shovel or lawn mower as easily as others. Helping others with yard work or other items improves the neighborhood and builds a sense of community.
MAINTAIN YOUR PROPERTY
Keep landscaping neatly trimmed and healthy. The value of your property will be enhanced, as well as your neighborhood and the entire city.
PLANT A TREE
Trees are not only beautiful, they are important in improving air quality, providing shade, and providing bird habitat.
SHOP LOCALLY
The vast majority of what you need can be purchased right here in Pocatello. Keeping your dollars local boosts the local economy and improves job availability.
EAT LOCALLY
Pocatello has lots of restaurants and fast food opportunities.
RECYCLE
Using the voluntary curbside recycling program will extend the life of the landfill, saving tax dollars and natural resources.
PLAY IN POCATELLO
Pocatello offers a wide variety of places to go and things to do. Visit the Idaho Museum of Natural History and the Bannock County Historical Museum. The Portneuf Greenway trails are available for use, as is the Ross Park Aquatic Center during the summer time. Tour the downtown historic area. We have two great golf courses. There are always great events from sport to cultural and music performances occurring at Idaho State University. And don't forget the Pocatello Zoo it is one of a kind!
TAKE A HISTORY WALK
Pick up a Downtown Historic District or East Side Downtown Walking Tour Brochure and take a walk through the historic Pocatello. Look at the great architecture representing Pocatello's past.
FLY CLOSER TO HOME
PIH Rates are usually competitive and you don't have the expense of time, gas, and long-term parking.
HAVE A PICNIC
Visit one of Pocatello's 34 parks (or one of several neighborhood "pocket parks") for an afternoon of fun.
MENTOR A CHILD
Children are the future. Improving children's lives is an investment for a better community.
REDUCE ENERGY USE
Use compact fluorescent and/or lower wattage light bulbs, when possible. Don't over water landscaping, and water when evaporation is least.
JOIN NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH
Preventing crime in your neighborhood helps prevent crime throughout the city. Contact the Pocatello Police Department for information.
RESPECT OTHERS
People don't always agree, but courtesy and respect go a long way toward building a better community.
USE "WE, US, OUR"
Great communitites do not think in terms of what's best for me, but rather what's best for us all.
OFFER SOLUTIONS
It's easy to find blame, point the finger, say "it's not my problem." Great communities are those that seek solutions, not concentrate on problems.
