HOW DO YOU GET ON PUBLIC TELEVISION
Or how can I get on the air? As part of our mission of providing access to the community, we offer training in the various pieces of equipment that are available for use by volunteers. All of our workshops are by appointment, based on staff availability. If you are unsure what workshops you may need, our staff will be happy to answer any questions.
| Camera Workshop |

At Channel 12, we have a variety of equipment available for field production. There are several camcorders, different tripods, microphones, lights, and anything you would need for basic production outside of our facility. During the course of the workshop, we cover such elements as basic camera operation, using a tripod, how to get the best audio, etc... We also touch briefly on basic techniques and camerawork. This workshop isn't designed to make you an award-winning videographer, but should provide you with enough knowledge to produce usable video. The camera workshop usually lasts about an hour, depending on your base knowledge level and what you want to learn.
| Studio Workshop |

Our studio is where most productions take place. It features 3 cameras, graphics, roll-in video, variable lighting, and a variety of options for your set. During the studio workshop we discuss both equipment operation and production style elements. We cover basic studio camera operation, directing, monitoring audio, and simple graphics. We also discuss set design ideas and possibilities, lighting concerns, and facility limitations. Staff may be available to assist in your studio productions, but producers are encouraged to find volunteers to operate the equipment for them. Studio workshops typically take about an hour, but camera operators can be trained in just a few minutes.

| Edit Workshop |

Pocatello Vision 12 offers edit capability for it's users. Our edit bay has one source deck and one record deck, and includes graphics and effects. This edit bay is built for cuts-only editing, but if you need more sophisticated editing capabilities, please talk to the staff. During the edit workshop we cover the basic operation of the edit controller, the video switcher, and briefly touch on graphics. Editing video is a time consuming process, and you should plan on much more time in the edit bay than anywhere else in the production process. Anticipate at least two hours for your edit workshop, with additional time for practicing editing.
| Computer Editing Workshops |

For more sophisticated editing, we have a computer editing system available to users. This system utilizes Adobe Premiere software for video editing, Title Deko and Inscriber CG for titles, and Easy DVD Creator for DVD authoring. Computer editing has many more options than traditional tape-to-tape editing, but also is more difficult to learn. Because of the complexity of the process, users should expect to spend several hours or even multiple workshops to learn the basics. A basic understanding of PC operation in a Windows environment is required.

| 12 Tone Row Workshop |

Originally created as a way for users to share alternative audio programming with the community, the 12 Tone Row studio has grown into a solo studio with the addition of video cameras and playback. The 12 Tone studio includes cameras, computer graphics, microphones, and video and audio playback equipment. Live call-in is also possible in this studio. The 12 Tone studio is configured so that it can be operated by the person who is on-camera. This workshop covers the operation of the cameras, switcher, the audio equipment, and the computer graphics. 12 Tone worshops typically take an hour.
