The Street Department has 21 full-time employees which include: The Street Superintendent, a secretary, two craftsman supervisors, and three mechanics. From April to October, four temporary labor positions are filled. The Street Department is in charge of a wide range of activities necessary to maintain 229 miles of streets. Normal applications include surface repair such as overlay, crack sealing, chip sealing, street sweeping, and patching. In addition to street repairs, this department is also responsible for maintenance of alleys, storm sewers, and upkeep of the Portneuf River channel. Detention dams and storm sewers are constructed as flood control devices for the City. Another of the major responsibilities of the Street Department is to ensure public safety during winter months by sanding and plowing the streets. In addition, they also respond to many types of emergency calls year round. This department houses the central fueling station for the entire City and mechanics perform maintenance and repairs on street department equipment, as well as Traffic Engineering, Building, Planning, Engineering, Mayor's office, Channel 12 and Utility Billing vehicles.
