ELECTRONIC WASTE CAN NOW BE RECYCLED IN POCATELLO

Collection Site is at 1121 South Second Avenue

Beginning today, June 20, 2007, the City of Pocatello has expanded its voluntary recycling program to include various types of electronic waste.

The City has contracted with PC Recyclers of Idaho to help citizens dispose of their electronic waste free-of-charge.  What is electronic waste?  It is electronic equipment that is obsolete or no longer working.  This type of equipment contains pollution and toxic materials that can leach out and into the environment.  “Citizens have been asking for a way to dispose of electronic equipment, and we are excited to offer this new program,” said Randy Allen, Sanitation Superintendent.  “It not only helps our citizens, but it also helps the environment.”

Items accepted through the City’s new program include:

  • color computer monitors;
  • computers, keyboards and mice;
  • printers, scanners and fax machines;
  • point of sale equipment
  • telephones;
  • cell/wireless phones; and
  • cabling

However, PC Recyclers of Idaho is unable to accept televisions, photocopiers or black & white monitors at this time.

Participants can be assured that all hard drives will be wiped clean of any data.  “100% of all hard drives received by PC Recyclers are either run through our ‘data destroying’ process or physically destroyed,” said company officials.  “This ensures all customers that their personal and confidential material is safe when left with PC Recyclers.”

Items for disposal should be taken to the City’s Sanitation Department at 1121 South 2nd Avenue during office hours which are Monday through Friday 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Saturday 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.  Individuals are asked not to leave items after hours.

The Bannock County Landfill is also offering this same service free-of-charge.  For more information about recycling electronic waste, contact the City Sanitation Department at 234-6192.
