The Planning Services Division is charged with overseeing the orderly growth and development of Pocatello.  Some of the principal functions of this division include:

 

  • Collection of data and the presentation of reports or studies pertinent to a multitude of land use decisions.
  • Preparation and administration of the City’s Comprehensive Plan, and Zoning, Subdivision, and Sign Ordinances (see City Code Chapter 17 – Zoning Chapter 16 – Subdivisions, Chapter 15.20, Signs).
  • Staff support and coordination with the following organizations for the betterment of the community:

 

    • Pocatello City Council
    • Community Development Commission
    • Hearing Examiner
    • Historic Preservation Commission
    • Site Plan Review Committee
    • Zoning Ordinance Review Committee
    • Pocatello Development Authority
    • Bannock Planning Organization
    • Old Town Pocatello
    • Portneuf Greenway Foundation
    • Pocatello Tree Committee
    • Valley Pride
    • Bannock Development Corporation
    • Southeast Idaho Council of Governments
    • Open Space Committee

 

  • Enforcement of all codes related to land use and signage in Pocatello, through coordination with the Pocatello Police Department Code Enforcement Officers.
  • Completion of special projects as assigned by the Mayor or City Council.

 

Fees associated with land use applications are set annually by resolution of the City Council.
