POCATELLO POLICE IMPLEMENT SECOND PHASE OF TASER PROGRAM
Officers Begin Training the Week of October 13, 2008

The Pocatello Police Department has implemented the second phase of their Taser program. After extensive testing and documentation, the next phase of the Taser program has been approved with funding from the City Council. Training for the officers will begin the week of October 13, 2008. Officers are required to attend training from certified Taser instructors prior to carrying the Taser on duty.

A Taser is an electronic control device (ECD) resulting in an immediate loss of a person’s neuromuscular control and the ability to perform coordinated action for the duration of the impulse which is approximately five seconds. Recovery is instant once the cycle ceases.

The media is invited to attend portions of the training, and will be given the opportunity to experience a volunteer exposure after a basic block of instruction. Those media persons interested in attending may contact Sergeant Paul Manning at 234-6142.
