REVEGETATION OF SACAJAWEA PARK SCHEDULED

Six Native Grass Species to be Planted Monday, July 14, 2008

Monday, July 14, 2008, City staff from the Science and Environment Division and local contractors will begin the process of revegetation of Sacajawea Park in Northwest Pocatello .

Since November of last year, contractors hired by the City to construct a storm water retention wetland have been resculpting the park area. With the dirt work, laying of the pipe, paths, fencing and bridge completed, the final step in the process of creating the wetland will be initiated on Monday. Contractors for the City will spread several tons of compost material across the entire project that is not a paved or hard surface and follow application of the compost with a hydroseed mix incorporating cellulose, grass seed, soil tackifier and fertilizer. The seed mix consists of six native grass species or species that are well adapted to conditions in southeastern Idaho . The six species are Idaho Fescue, Bottlebrush Squirrel Tail, Bluebunch, Indian Rice Grass, Sodar, and Bannock Thick Spike.

City staff anticipate that the project on both the west side of the river at the park and the pipeline corridor area on the east side of the river will be completed by the end of the week, approximately July 18.
