COTTONWOOD LIFT STATION IMPROVEMENT PROJECT BEGINS

Information Meetings set for December 4th and 6th

The City of Pocatello’s contractor, Bodiford Construction, will begin work on the Cottonwood Lift Station Improvement Project on December 1, 2008.  The contractor and Deirdre Castillo, City Senior Engineer, will be available to meet with residents at the project site on Thursday, December 4th between 2:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. and on Saturday, December 6th between 10:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.

It is anticipated that work will be completed this winter; however installation of concrete curb and gutter may be postponed until spring when the weather is warmer.  The project is located on Riverside Drive between Maplewood and Cottonwood Streets.

The work includes demolition of the existing underground sanitary sewer lift station and construction of a new lift station including pumps, a larger wet well, valve vault, equipment shed, electrical work, power upgrades, drainage improvements, fencing, and installation of an on-site emergency generator.  This project is necessary because the existing pumps are worn out and the wet well is too small to effectively handle the flow.

Since the construction site is very small the contractor will need to park equipment on Riverside Drive, thereby restricting the flow of traffic.  Traffic will be detoured away from Riverside Drive onto Foothill Blvd.  Riverside Drive will be closed to through traffic between Cottonwood and Maplewood; however, driveway access for local residents in the project area will remain open.  Motorists are asked to avoid traveling in this area if possible.

For questions or additional information, please contact Deirdre Castillo at 234-6587.
