MAYOR TO ISSUE THREE PROCLAMATIONS AT COUNCIL MEETING
Local Representatives Will Accept Proclamations September 4, 2008
Pocatello Mayor Roger Chase will issue three proclamations at the City Council Meeting scheduled for Thursday, September 4, 2008.
The first proclamation is in honor of Suicide Prevention Week being held September 7 through 13, 2008. In Idaho, suicide is the second leading cause of death among individuals between the ages of 15 to 24. The proclamation not only asks agencies to develop prevention, support and awareness programs, but also asks citizens to take time to understand, recognize and respond to the problem of suicide.
The second proclaims the month of September as National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month and is a joint proclamation between the Cities of Chubbuck and Pocatello. The proclamation recognizes the treatment and recovery journey that those battling substance abuse make every day. It encourages Chubbuck and Pocatello residents to “join the voices for recovery; real people, real recovery.”
Finally, September 2008 will also be recognized as Sister Cities Africa Month, and members of Pocatello’s Sister Cities Africa Committee will be present to accept the proclamation. The proclamation notes the work the Committee has done to promote and support education in Pocatello’s sister city of Kwaremenguel, Burkina Faso, West Africa. Citizens are encouraged to find out more about how they can help our sister city in West Africa.
