Every year city departments are required to present a performance report to the Mayor, City Council and citizen stakeholders (Service Level Report). Under the supervision of the Chief Financial Officer, the departments discuss their mission, financial inputs, workload outputs, measures of efficiency & effectiveness (including comparisons to other cities & industry norms), results and their issues and concerns for the future.

CALLING CITY HALL - MAYOR'S CALL-IN PROGRAM

“Calling City Hall” is shown live the first Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. The program helps citizens learn more about city government and community issues, while providing an opportunity to call in with any questions, suggestions, or concerns they may have.

In segment one of this episode Mayor Blad and City Council President Eva Nye talk with Idaho Meth Project Volunteer Leader, Traci Santillanes to discuss how meth affects each person in our community. Ms. Santillanes previews the new anti-meth ad campaign launched by a coalition of eight states, which includes Public Service Announcements and online resources for teens and their parents. More information on this campaign can be found at www.methproject.com. In the second half of the program the Mayor and Councilwoman Nye speak with Lt. Paul Manning of the Pocatello Police Department about the very successful the Medication Take-Back Program, which addresses a vital public safety and public health issue.

November 1, 2011

In segment one of this episode Mayor Blad and Councilman Roger Bray talk with BJ Stensland of Aid for Friends and Sarah Leeds of Family Services Alliance. Their discussion focuses on the services Aid for Friends and Family Services Alliance provide for homeless in the community. In the second segment the Mayor and Councilman have a conversation with Brian Lowman and Lance Clark of the Parks & Recreation Department. They discuss winter team sports activities suchs as adult and kids basketball and co-ed volleyball as well as winter outdoor sports such as those supported at the Mink Creek Nordic Center. Mayor Blad and Lance Clark also discuss grant money recently received to upgrade the City Creek trails.

In segment one of this episode Fire Chief Mike Irwin and County Commissioner Steve Hadley join Mayor Brian Blad to discuss the upcoming Ambulance District Levy and what it means to our community. During the second half of the program, the Mayor will be joined by Ruth Whitworth, Pocatello City Clerk, and Jay Bingham, Bannock County Elections Administrator. They discuss how to register to vote, how and where to vote absentee, and how to find your polling place for the Nov 8, 2011 municipal election.

Segment one is a conversation with Mayor Brian Blad, Councilman Steve Brown and Lonnie Crowell, the City's recently appointed Planning & Development Services Director. Director Crowell discusses his vision for our community and the City’s Comprehensive Plan. In segment two of the program the Mayor and Councilman are joined by Deirdre Castillo, Pocatello City Engineer. She provides an update on the South End Connector and other City engineering projects.

In segment two of the program, the Mayor and Councilman Cooper discuss the new community “Medication Take-Back Program" with Pocatello Police Captain Jim Peterson. A program on how to properly dispose of unused medication.

The discussion highlights the City's recent transition to providing (as part of regular garbage services) commingled curbside recycling to all residential customers. Segment two is a conversation with the City Environmental Education Coordinator, Hannah Sanger and Portneuf Valley Environmental Fair Committee members Linda Burke and Shannon Ansely discussing activities planned for the upcoming 2011 Environmental Fair.

Segment one is a conversation with Mayor Brian Blad, Councilman Steve Brown and Gynii Gilliam, Executive Director of Bannock Development Corporation. The discussion highlights what the Bannock Development Corporation does, the process of business recruitment and their past accomplishments. She also discusses what she feels the future holds for economic development in our community. Segment two is a conversation with Robert Chambers, Director of the City’s Planning & Development Services Department. Robert Chambers, will discuss Tax Increment Financing (TIF). He will outline how the City uses this important economic tool to attract businesses to our community. He will also discuss past successes and how a TIF district can be retired.

Segment one is a conversation with Mayor Brian Blad, Councilman Roger Bray and Pocatello Street Operations Department Superintendent Randy Ghezzi. The discussion highlights winter weather conditions and snow control removal. Superintendent Ghezzi outlines how the department prioritizes plowingand sanding roads during winter storms. Segment two is a conversation with Mary Remer, Animal Services Director and Kristen Medina, Animal Shelter Volunteer Coordinator both advise viewers of the problems with giving pets as Christmas gifts. Ms. Remer discusses pet care during the winter and Ms. Medina discusses the shelter’s volunteer program and how citizens can participate by becoming volunteers.
