The City Attorney and the Deputy City Attorneys advise the Mayor, City Council, and other City department heads as to legal matters affecting the municipal corporation. The City Attorney prepares legal documents for the City Council and other City departments, including lease agreements, contracts, resolutions, and ordinances. In addition, the Legal Department handles civil litigation to which the municipality and its officers are a party. The attorneys cannot provide any general legal advice to citizens because they serve as counsel for the municipal corporation and as prosecuting attorneys for the State of Idaho for traffic infractions and certain misdemeanor criminal citations issued by Pocatello Police officers.
