Special Operations

USAR – Region 3

The Urban Search and Rescue team has 23 members.  All members are Technician level for Confined Space and 6 team members are qualified instructors in confined space, trench rescue and building collapse. Training in trench rescue and building collapse has been scheduled.   There are 2 response vehicles – a Rescue Truck and pickup truck to tow trailers to a scene.  Trailers carry trench rescue equipment and, collapse and confined space equipment.  The Region 3 Team which covers all of Eastern Idaho is comprised of members from Pocatello and Idaho Falls Fire Departments

Hazardous Materials – Region 6 RRT

In addition to basic hazardous materials training that all firefighters receive, there is a 25 member team that is Hazardous Materials Technician Qualified.  The Region 6 RRT covers all of Southeast Idaho (8 counties). The team will respond to all hazards including WMD and Terrorist events.  There are 2 response vehicles – Hazmat Truck and Hazmat Pickup.  Additional equipment includes a Decon Trailer for mass decontamination, a Waterways Trailer with booms and pigs to protect state waterways, and a Mobile Air Trailer that provides breathing air for remote response areas and long term events


Airport Fire Station

The Pocatello Fire Department’s airport station is staffed by 1 person.  The Oshkosh ARFF (Airport Rescue and Firefighting) vehicle is capable of delivering 1000 gallons AFFF foam and 450 pounds purple K dry powder.  The airport station covers all flights in and out of Pocatello.  The Pocatello airport is the divert airport for Salt Lake City for bad weather and emergency landings. 

The Airport is also the location of our training prop for live fire drills to certify with the FAA.  Yearly certification and quarterly training for all ARFF qualified drivers and Captains is required
