Custer Bridge Project

The City of Pocatello has been awarded federal funds to rehabilitate the bridge on Custer Street over the Portneuf River . The Custer St bridge has a sufficiency rating of 69.0 out of 100 based on results from ITD sponsored inspections. The concrete deck, steel I-beams, expansion joints, steel bearing pads, curbs, and sidewalks are in fair to poor condition. Custer Street is a main connector between the west bench and the east side of the Portneuf River.

This project is currently in the design phase. Keller Associates is working with the City Engineering Department. The Concept Study Report and the Environmental Evaluation have been approved. The project includes replacement and rehabilitation of critical elements, specifically the deck of the bridge and support girders, to extend the service life of the structure and to maintain a smooth driving surface. These improvements will provide a bridge that will safely accommodate vehicles and pedestrians.

We anticipate that construction will occur in 2010.
