Cottonwood Lift Station Improvement Project

The Cottonwood Lift Station is located on Riverside Drive between Cottonwood Ave and Maplewood Ave. , at the base of the Portneuf Greenway trail. Homes are situated on two sides of the lift station property.

The lift station receives sanitary sewage from surrounding areas including the West Pocatello Townsite, Highlands, Fremont Heights , and a portion of Trail Creek Estates. The sewage is pumped across the Portneuf River into a main line on N Hayes Ave. The existing pumps are worn out and the wet well is too small to handle future flow.

This project includes demolition of the existing lift station and construction of a new lift station including pumps, a larger wet well, valve box, equipment shed, electrical work, power upgrades, drainage improvements, fencing, and installation of an on-site emergency generator. The new submersible pumps will be fitted with a semi-open, self cleaning impeller. Staff has found that this particular pump does not clog as easily as other pumps, and will use less power than the existing pumps.

Before the start of construction, city engineering staff and the contractor will meet with residents in the immediate area to discuss impacts. Through traffic will be detoured around the project site; however, driveway access for local residents will remain open. In addition, there is a maximum decibel restriction for bypass pumping operations.

Three contractors submitted bids for this project. The lowest responsive bidder was Bodiford Construction of Boise. The City and Bodiford are currently finalizing the agreement. Construction will be completed by this fall. The contractor is allowed 40 working days to complete the project; however, pump delivery and approval of submittals takes several weeks.
